Ways To Clean Suede Sofa

Because of its luxurious texture and feel, suede sofa has become a popular choice among furniture buyers. However, keeping a suede couch clean and stain free can be a problem especially if you have kids or pets around the house.

If you want to enjoy the beauty of your suede sofa for a long time, it is essential to know the different ways how to take special care of your living room furniture set. Below are some of the smart ways that you can do to care for your suede sofa.

  1. Take preventive measure

Applying protective coating on your suede couch will help ensure that the couch is water and stain-proof. Purchase special suede protectors and apply it regularly to keep your couch fresh and clean.

  1. Dust off your sofa using special suede brush

If you have pets or kids who love jumping on your sofa, frequent dusting should be done to avoid permanent stain to form on the surface of the suede materials. Using a special suede napping brush, do a quick cleaning on the surface of your suede couch to remove dust, food crumbs, hair, or dirt.

If your couch has removable cushions, remember to turn and rotate the cushion to promote even wear.

  1. Vacuum your sofa

At least once a month, take time to vacuum clean your sofa from top to bottom. With a handheld vacuum cleaner, reach through every tight corner of your sofa and remove small dirt that must be hidden in plain sight. You can also use specialized vacuum attachment to clean the back, arms and the legs of your living room furniture set.

  1. Treat stain immediately

Using sandpaper or emery – Gently rub the exterior of your sofa to remove the stain. Remember to rub lightly so as not to damage the suede.

Use pencil eraser to treat smaller stains – in a circular motion, rub the stains out of your suede couch. This way, you can get rid of the small stain spot without increasing the damage.

Use paper towel to blot out spilled liquid – colored drinks such as wine, cola, tea or coffee can cause permanent stains on your couch. If any of these spilled on your sofa, act immediately and blot out the liquid using paper towels.

Use stain removers available in stores – research online or ask your friends for recommendations about the best chemical cleaners to use to remove stains on your suede couch. Before applying any chemical, remember to read the instructions carefully. Apply first in an inconspicuous part of your sofa to see how the chemical will react on the suede materials.

  1. Reapply stain repellent as needed

Stain repellent only works for a certain period of time. To ensure that your sofa is properly protected all the time, reapply stain repellent or waterproofing products as needed.
